Patrick Winterton Lectures at Tiso PDF Print E-mail
Patrick Winterton came to notice in 2006 after his first audacious solo paddle from Glasgow to Muckle Flugga, via St Kilda and other outlying islands. The feat itself, with a number of previously unattempted crossings, got people talking. But it was the resulting film, Scottish Extremities (winner of Best Film at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival 2007) that caught the imagination of kayakers and inspired many others to push their own limits.

As a former winter Olympian, Patrick has abandoned the snow for the sea and has swung away from the world of time trials and record chasing, towards a quest for adventure and discovery of wildlife and wild places. Although an enthusiast as opposed to an expert, his considerable ability, his belief in what is possible and his experience as a professional sports broadcaster have enabled him to create genuine, gripping and informative films of some of the most committing paddling expeditions undertaken in the UK.

In Riding the Celtic Tiderace he recounts anecdotes from his latest West Coast adventures, inspired by the tales of St Brendan the Navigator, and will show selected footage from this and other expeditions to The Skelligs, St Kilda and beyond.
