The Doon bites back! - 2009/10/26 19:58
Hi all,
I really enjoyed the paddle last Sunday (25th October.) A very "exciting" trip!
I have to say that I've never seen that part of the Doon quite so feisty (probably because people go and paddle something else if it is that rainy.) It certainly dished out some watery punishment to a few folk.
I was amazed how many great waves and rapids there were. Of course "good" becomes "bad" when you are still learning your river craft, and swims are pretty much inevitable if you are to progress your river paddling. Of course if you can use the pool sessions to develop a bomb proof roll, then you can spend less time employed in the frustrating task of emptying your boat!
Usually the Doon is an excellent, placid teaching environment, but last Sunday was a reminder if required that even a river you know can throw a few surprises. We were fortunate that we had a good turn out of experienced paddlers that were able to help out those who chose to investigate the swimming option!
I'll not be able to make next weeks session, but will try to make the following one on the 8th November.
Hope to see you out there,
Jeremy.
