Saturday the 15th of August. - 2009/08/16 18:56
Ok, We had a huge dump of rain on Friday 14th August into Saturday 15th. Our original plan to go up north was put on hold till later as Ayrshire was in flood and no need to go anywhere. One of Ayrshires best sections of river (Patna to Skeldon Estate) Doon. comes into great condition when we've had some good rain. But with the amount of rain we had we were in for a treat. And so we did, When we got on the river the level was up over the grass. The normal flatter sections turned into big long wave trains. All in all This section which runs down through Boreland Gorge is FANTASTIC at that water level. CAUTION, Be aware that the Footbridge just before you drop into the gorge section must be given respect. At such high water levels like yesterday we had to portage round it. Jez, Joe,Jake and myself had a great paddle down this section at optimum water levels. At Boreland Gorge we got out and had a look at what we were going down into. After inspection we blasted down through the gorge section hooting and hollering in the realisation of how lucky we had been to catch the river in such good condition. Jez managed to get some good video footage so all going well you'll be able to see some highlights of our trip. George
