Re:Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course - 2009/06/30 11:13 The only date Dave can do is 5th / 6th September and at a cost of £80. (Gone up £20 in the last three weeks!)

I'm investigating other options.

Re:Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course - 2009/06/30 12:28 Jez,
The 5th and 6th of September is fine for me. I'm up for it as you know. Dave Rosseter is a top WWS&R Coach. People would be silly not too take up this chance.
With it being the 5th and 6th of September people have every chance to get on it. And good timing before the winter. What would the venue be? The Boulder garden on the Nith?
How does the costs work out for each club member?

PS
The hoodies look good. Whats the back design? And costs?

Re:Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course - 2009/06/30 18:39 Federico,
I understand your comments on the Venue for this course. This course is aimed at club members who are currently running rivers. If members are not yet at a level of running rivers then the best course of action for them would be to work on those river skills first.
The WWS&R Course is for Kayakers within the club who are out running rivers now. I can think of at least 8 regular paddlers who will benefit from this course.

PS
If you are interested in being involved in this course please reply on here. This will allow the club to gauge proposed numbers

Re:Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course - 2009/07/06 15:59 Hi all,

I'd be keen to get on this course as well and the dates in september are good for me just now.

I agree with G about the suitability of the people to take part in the course: they should be already confident in paddling on white water and wanting to learn how to provide safety: the key is in the name of the course.

There is a FSRT course (foundation safety and rescue training course) that wouold be more aplicable to those not quite up to the level of paddling white water yet. It gives you all the skills required to help another paddler in a more tame environment. It is also a pre requisit for anyone wanting to get onto the coaching ladder. I know a few people who can run this course and may be willing to do so at a reasonable price. Any interest from anyone?

See you all when it finally rains.

Re:Whitewater Safety and Rescue Course - 2009/07/06 16:52 Hi all,

Having looked at a few options, it seems that Dave Rossiter would be the best option for us.

So, I'll confirm that we want a WWSR course on the 5th 6th September. The cost will be £70, half of which will be paid by the club.

We need 6 people for the course.

As mentioned previously, the WWSR course is for those who are already competent paddlers on white water, but need to develop their rescue techniques. As the BCU say:

"The WWS&R training course is designed for all paddlers operating in a moderate to advanced white water environment in either kayak or canoe. In addition, the training is required for those seeking their 4 star leader (white water or open canoe) award."

If this sounds like you, and want to come along, please contact me on 07903 170 727 to reserve a place.

Jeremy.
