Star Awards - 2010/08/30 15:37 Bit of a ranging subject so i'll be brief, there's been some questions raised over what level people are paddling at and can they do certificates.

BASICS

1 star (done in ANY boat) most folk would be this level having attended some pool sessions or paddled around a bit and not drowned. As a provider I would be trying to get people into as many different types of boat as possible on such a course.

2 Star (done in Canoe AND kayak). A beginner who is progressing nicely. Note two types of boat to be used and to pass you need to demonstrate same / similar ability in BOTH. This is a problem for a lot of kayakers esp in our club! We have 2 canoes but either noone wants to use them or lacks the skills to use them.

SOLUTION:
FREE CANOE COACHING!!!
Where: Castle semple centre, Lochwinnoch
When: Tuesday nights 6 - 8pm on the following dates. 31Aug, 7,14, 21, 28th Sep,.
Who: Willie Mcleod Level 3 Canoe coach. Regional Coaching Officer

Do not post here if interested, either turn up on night or phone 01505842882 ext21 to discuss.

Lets leave it at that for just now. Start a new topic if you want a discussion on the award structure or see the BCU / SCA website.

Re:Star Awards/Canoeing - 2010/09/01 08:03 Neil thanks for this post, (I wish I had checked earlier, missed the first session). I will be there next week.

Does the 2* require solo canoe paddling or is tandem an option. ?

Guys, don't think i'd bother coming up tonight. Willie is off work with a busted leg as of yesterday so I guess he'll not be coaching anything. He was last seen gulping down pain killers the size of horse tranqs!

Give him a call to check if its on next week.
