Buying second hand - 2009/04/03 15:50 Can anyone help me out?

I'm considering buying a sea kayak from a friend (I've previously borrowed it so know it's nice). He's had it a number of years but looked after it and not used/abused it heavily.

I know it cost £1600 new and must be at least 4 years old. How much should the price reduce with time? What should you look for when buying second hand?

It's a North Shore something-or-other if that helps.

Any hints and tips appreciated! I'm new to kayaking so feel free to point out the obvious, although I checked already and know that it floats.

Re:Buying second hand - 2009/05/01 12:26 Lorna,
I can only give you one peice of advice.
Don't bother buying sea Kayak. Get a river boat and join the group thats starting. Even if you still want to go paddling on the flat you'll have river skills to keep you upright.

Sea paddling is for old folk.

Now don't get all upset you lot(You know who you are)
You know it's true

Re:Buying second hand - 2009/05/05 13:31 Flat?! You think the sea is flat?!

I lost sight of Bridget completely in the swell on Sunday, and apparently it wasn't that rough.

Anyway you're too late. I bought the boat, and I passed on the river paddle to go out on the sea this weekend. I'm a lost cause already.
