In addition to the Contitution, the Club is governed by a set of Standing orders. Unlike the Constitution, which requires a General Meeting, the Standing Orders can be amended by Committee.

Note 1: Assistance with coaching qualifications is offered to members on the understanding that they will subsequently using the training / qualifications to the benefit of the Club.
Note 2: If Safety Related or Skills Awards are then used by the member as pre-requisites for coaching awards then they may apply to the Club committee for the full cost of the course.
Note 3:Assistance with course costs excludes the cost of the certificate that is issued by the BCU or SCA to the successful participant. Pre-requisites for Club Activities (excluding pool sessions). i) All attendees must be properly equipped according to the type of trip. In the event of any one not having the necessary minimum equipment they will not be allowed to participate. ii) Minimum levels of BCU skill award achievement in order to be able to participate are as follows: • Beginner Trip (flat to grade 1 to 2 water) – 1 Star. • Intermediate Trip (grade 2 to 3 water) – 3 Star, • Surf Trip – 3 Star. • Or can demonstrate previous relevant experience for that grade of water. iii) Signed membership forms, including details of any medical conditions and emergency contacts, must have been completed for all members attending a trip and have been handed to the Club Secretary or Trip Organiser prior to commencement of the trip. iv) A parental consent form must have been completed by the parents / guardians of all Junior members attending a trip and have been handed to the Club Secretary or Trip Organiser prior to commencement of the trip. On trips involving an overnight stay, Juniors members require to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or their nominated same sex in loco Parentis and a signed in loco Parentis form must be provided to the trip organiser or the Club Secretary in advance. v) Junior Members will not be allowed to participate in Club trips unless a suitably qualified Coach is present on the trip and is willing to take responsibility for them. Minimum Coach Qualification levels are as follows (as per BCU guidelines): • Sheltered Flat Water – Level 2 Coach • Up to Grade 2 Water – Level 3 Coach (inland) • Surf up to 1m high – Level 3 Coach (Surf) • Coastal Sea Trips – Level 3 Coach (Sea) • Conditions in excess of those above –Level 4 Coach (relevant discipline) In any event, the Club will not run trips involving Juniors on water in excess of Grade 3 river, or equivalent sea state. vi) Junior members under 8 years of age will not be permitted to participate unless a parent or guardian accompanies them on the water.
vii) Notwithstanding the above, the trip leader reserves the right to refuse to allow members to participate if on the day he / she judges conditions to be unsuitable for their level of experience or physical condition. viii) Failure of a member to conduct themselves appropriately, and with proper consideration for their own safety and that of others, may result in their being refused the opportunity to attend future trips. ix) No formal charge is made for club trips, however a small contribution towards replacement of club equipment may be requested. Club members should also note that if travelling in a car with other members they may be expected to make a contribution towards the cost of the journey. Note: Club Activities are those formally organised by the Club as advertised on the Club notice board, in the club news bulletins, or via e-mail.
Pool Training Sessions – Code of Conduct. General: i) Paddlers should obey the ‘Pool Rules’ displayed by the sides of the pool. ii) Paddlers must comply with requests made by the Lifeguards or staff of the Citadel.
iii) Paddlers must leave the pool when signalled to do so by the pool staff or a club coach.
Care of the Pool Environment: i) In order to prevent contamination of the pool or poolside, paddlers who are using their own boats must ensure that they have been thoroughly cleaned, both inside and out, and are empty of any river / sea water before bring them into ‘The Citadel’. ii) The use of metal edge paddles should be avoided. If these are used then the edges must be taped to avoid damage to the pool tiles and to other paddlers.
iii) To avoid the risk of spreading disease outdoor footwear should not be worn on the pool side.
iv) The use of ‘seal launching’ to enter the water from the poolside should be avoided to prevent possible damage to the edge tiles.
Equipment: i) Paddlers who do not have, or have not brought, a boat of their own should offer assistance with carrying boats up to the poolside at the start of the session. ii) Paddlers who have had the use of a club boat or have borrowed boat during the session should ensure that they return it, empty of water, either to the boat store or to the car park as appropriate.
iii) Any damage to equipment, or equipment that is defective, must be reported to a member of the committee or to the owner of the equipment.
Conduct: i) Any paddler behaving in a dangerous or an unreasonable manner will be asked to leave the pool. ii) Junior paddlers or novices should not enter the water until they have the permission of a club coach to do so.
Payment: i) Current pool fees will be displayed on the club notice board. ii) A member of the committee will be available at the session to collect pool fees.
iii) Failure to pay the fee requested on two or more consecutive occasions will result in the relevant non-member fee being charged for all outstanding payments.
PLEASE NOTE: OUR CONTINUED USE OF THE POOL FOR TRAINING PURPOSES IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CITADEL. FAILURE TO TAKE ADEQUATE CARE OF THE POOL AND ITS SURROUNDS COULD WELL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF THIS VALUABLE FACILITY. Access To & Use Of Club Equipment. General: i) An inventory of equipment owned by the Club will be published annually at the AGM. ii) When not in use Club equipment will be kept in a secure store. iii) Access to the equipment store will be limited solely to the club committee members and coaches who will each hold a key to the store. iv) Personal equipment may only be left in the equipment storage facility with the prior agreement of the committee. Personal equipment is left in the store entirely at the owners risk. v) Where personal equipment is left in store unsecured it is deemed available for use by the Club. If secured, the Club request a donation of £ 20.00, payable with membership fees. vi) Club equipment only will be covered by an insurance policy providing an adequate level of cover as determined by the Committee. vii) The Club committee will be responsible for the secure storage and insurance of the Club equipment. Viii) Abuse of equipment by members may result in the option of use in future being withdrawn by the committee. Use of Equipment: i) Club equipment is available to members. ii) Arrangements to borrow Club equipment for a trip should be made with the trip organiser. iii) With agreement of two (other) committee members (preferably, the bosun and the duty coach on the date kit is next required), club equipment may be made available to members for private use. A donation to club funds will be requested. The equipment to be borrowed must be logged with the bosun. End |
